Asbury Park School District hosted its land dedication ceremony on Dec. 20, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. for students particiipating in the SUSHI program (Suburban and Urban School Health Initiative). Spearheaded by Freeholder Tom Arnone, the program partners the district's Thought Leader After-School Academy (TLAA) students with their counterparts from Colts Neck Township School District. The goal of this program is to promote healthy lifestyles and increase awareness about nutrition and physical activity for the residents of Monmouth County. The students take frequent trips to the Allaire Community farm in Wall Township to get hands-on instruction about harvesting their own products.
Over the past couple of months, the two groups of students have met on a weekly basis to learn more about farm-to-table healthy eating initiatives. Both groups are proud to announce that in both school districts there will be a land dedication service. Both school districts also have committed to the continual learning and growing of crops to further understand the harvesting way of life.
