MLK Middle School Transformation in the Works!
DMLK Middle School Transformation in the Works!
Posted on 07/14/2023
Each classroom is receiving new HVAC units to meet today’s fresh air requirements and provide air conditioning for a more comfortable learning environment. Installation of the new units required the removal of ventilator units that were nearly 50 years old. Classrooms also are receiving new ceilings and lighting upgrades using more cost-efficient LED bulbs.
In addition to new classroom HVAC units, the district also replaced the boilers with high-efficiency condensing boilers. This required the demolition of existing boilers and storage tanks.
Also, the air handling units in the DMLKMS’ gymnasium are being replaced to meet fresh air requirements as well as provide air conditioning.
Another major undertaking is the revamping of the school’s media center. The transformation includes a new HVAC Roof Top Unit and a modernization, more user-friendly layout for students and staff.
The last area seeing upgrades is the cafeteria/multi-purpose room/kitchen, which have received new ceilings, lighting, an audio and video system and HVAC system that includes air conditioning.
As of result of all of these enhancements, the building required an upgrade to its electrical systems. Contractors have been trenching and running new wiring so the new equipment can operate. All repairs are expected to be completed by September 2023, in time for the arrival of students and staff.
