A Message from Our

Dr. RaShawn Adams

Asbury Park Parents, Students, Staff and Community:

Since I was appointed your Superintendent on Oct. 28, 2021, I have been engaging with students, staff and community. I am grateful for those experiences and have learned a lot. First, I want to acknowledge the challenges that our students have faced, including the disruption of their usual routine, the challenges posed by remote learning and their return to in-person instruction. Through it all, they have demonstrated determination and remarkable resilience. I am proud of every one of them. I am equally grateful for the dedication of our staff, who have been working tirelessly to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for our students in this post-COVID, new normal.

The health and safety of our Blue Bishop Family will continue to be a priority. We will abide by all relevant guidelines and protocols set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and local health authorities. We can’t do this alone, so I implore the entire school community to do you part to help keep everyone safe.
The district has established several goals designed to increase student achievement, implement consistent protocols and practices, and improve the overall culture and climate in schools. One of our key focus areas will be attendees. We aim to improve student attendance by 50% this year, and seek to have 95 percent of our staff in the 95th percentile for occasional absences. Additionally, my team is committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our staff. To that end, we will be offering a variety of professional development opportunities to help them continue to grow and improve in their roles.

Recognizing the important role that our community plays in the success of our students, I am committed to strengthening our partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and other community groups. My team and I will be reaching out to all of our stakeholders to see how you can provide additional resources and support to our students and their families.

As we look ahead, we are facing a number of new challenges and opportunities. Our district continues to see multimillion dollar cuts each year, but we have been successful in minimizing their impact on student instruction and services. We are committed to providing a rigorous and engaging curriculum for all of our students, and are working to ensure that the curriculum aligns with state standards. As social-emotional health continues to be a priority for our entire school community, we will work to ensure that all supports and resources are in place to assist those who may be struggling. On the horizon, we are working to expand our CTE offerings to include cosmetology in the 2023-2024 school year.

In closing, I believe that by working together, we can overcome any obstacles and ensure that our students receive the quality education they deserve. Our district is poised for unprecedented positive growth, and I am thrilled that I will be able to be an integral part of the process.
