APHS Student Spotlight: Graciela Martinez-Osorio

While attending Asbury Park High School, Graciela participated in the Allied Health Academy. She was among several students who earned their NHA Patient Care Technician License before graduating high school.  She even received a perfect score! To earn the license, students must pass a test that includes a variety of questions from five main heath care topics including patient care, compliance, safety, and professional responsibility, infection control, phlebotomy and EKG. As a result of her success in the program, she will be working full time as a Patient Care Technician at Jersey Shore University Medical Center earning a minimum of $22 per hour. After a year, the hospital will assist with the cost of nursing school. In addition to the PCT license, she also holds the OSHA 10-Hour wallet card from the OSHA Training Institute and the HeartCode®  Basic Life Support training for their clinical duties. Graciela credits her son with motivating her in everything she does and inspiring her to improve her life and achieve all she can.
